A fresh renovation opens things up and lets the light in.
A recent home renovation by the MJ Harris Group brought contemporary design touches to a tired floorplan by opening living spaces to invite more natural light inside. Without altering the footprint, Senior Interior Designer, Jeyda Osman was able to transform the home into a perfect example of modern functionality.
Jeyda Osman, a Senior Interior Designer at MJ Harris Group, teamed up with Laminex to create key features on the Marden Street project. As part of the brief, the clients were adamant that green be used.
“From day one our clients wanted to use green as part of the renovation. Laminex offers a user-friendly and high-quality product without compromising on colour,” says Osman.
Used extensively throughout the kitchen is Laminex Olivine, a wonderfully subdued green that uses its grey undertone to give it a beautifully muted, organic character. Olivine has the flexibility to work with a multitude of timbers and stones to create personal and unique material combinations.
“Olivine is yellow based green, and working with this feature, we opted to use warm oak flooring and brushed brass fittings and fixtures to complement its tone. We also added a skylight – and removed a wall to relocate the kitchen – to further brighten up the space,” explains Osman.
To expand the space and give the home all the functionality the client required, Osman and team developed a new floorplan to achieve the client’s goals.
“We modified the kitchen and butler’s pantry,” says Osman. “By relocating the kitchen, we were able to maximise the space for the laundry. Following that, we were then able to add a custom wine rack, an appliance cupboard and maximise bench and storage space.”
“I suggested incorporating the dining table into the island – which creates a seamless connection between the spaces, and we used integrated appliances to create a clean look,” explains Osman on how she achieved the functionality the client was after. “And we knew that by removing the wall, more light would be able to stream through the kitchen.”
‘Dedicated to reimagining your dream home’ MJ Harris Group, with an amazing inhouse team of designers and architects, builders, joiners, carpenters and painters, do so with an emphasis on quality and efficiency. Alongside their own team is a network of suppliers and reliable industry professionals that ensure each home renovation is completed in a timely manner and without compromise.
“We know that when we order Laminex it will come as specified, as promised and ready to work with immediately. We’re only as reliable as our network, so suppliers and partners like Laminex make a big difference. Quality and finish are always spot on and as reliable as their delivery,” says Scott Morris, Head Joiner, MJ Harris Group.
“The (Laminex) ordering system is simple to use. We can see stock and the price straightaway,” reiterates Morris, “but more than that it’s always a good quality product; consistency in the sheet, always straight, great to work with.”
The clients, now living within a wonderfully light-filled space, make every day a pleasure with high quality fixtures and fittings, like the brass sink and tapware. The increased storage and ability to keep routine activities out of sight is what makes this home a shining success, crafting a truly stress-free environment.
Marden Street is a delightfully approachable, and successful design that introduces light, colour and warmth via perfectly applied, tactile materiality. With Laminex’s built-in durability, water, heat and scratch resistance, it’s extensive use on the project provides peace of mind, while promising years of enjoyment.
